Our first operation area is Kagadi, Kibale District in Western Uganda. Access to Education is the biggest challenge of the children of Kagadi and we found it beneficial and developmental for our first project to be in Education for vulnerable, orphaned and abandoned children. This falls into one of our objectives as an organization.
Maisha started a small-scale agriculture project where grow maize on a 2 acre piece of land which we rented for this purpose. Through this farm we are able to grow our own food that we use to feed the 80 children at the center and the 5 fostered by Mr. & Mrs. Kikomeko. 3 of those 5 children were previously abandoned by thier teenage mothers.
Maisha Hope Farm is a partnership between Hope Farms USA and Maisha Holistic Africa foundation. This project that was started by a US couple; Nathan and Lindsey Veach. This brass band helps the youth to learn musical instruments to grow their talents. It is also hired to perform on functions like weddings, parties among others. By playing in this brass band the youth earn a little money that enables them to meet some of their basic needs. The brass band has helped our youth to keep focused other than being idle. Some of the youths have been able to earn scholarships in schools to play in school brass bands as they pursue their education.
