Maisha has a small-scale agriculture project where we grow maize on a 2 acre piece of land which we rented for this purpose. Through this farm we are able to grow our own food that we use to feed the children at the center. .
After harvest, the maize is milled and turned into maize flour that is prepared into porridge and posho. The rest of the maize floor is sold off in exchange for other necessities like soap, sugar, salt, clothes, and shoes for the children.
We also grow vegetables and fruits that we cook to boost the children’s nutrition. These include; egg plants, onions, tomatoes, leefy greens, passion fruits, ovacados and oranges. We also have fruits like passion fruits, avocados also grown around which helps the kids to have a balanced diet.
